Best and worst wine under $16 - Los Angeles, California (2011- 2016)

I love wine, I drink wine most of the time, oh well. I decided to start a wine review website and keep a record of wines I taste - so I don't forget and buy bad wine again weeks later. Here we go - my own reviews about wines in Los Angeles under $16 (plus tax).

WHITE WINE

RED WINE

I bought it at Rite Aid

Wente Chardonnay Riva Ranch 2011

My opinion: It was on sale for $14.99 (Regular Price: $20.49). BevMo has it for $13.99 (Regular Price: $15.99). Nice, buttery, with a hint lemon acidity. I liked it.

Winemaker's notes: The Wente Vyds Riva Ranch Chardonnay is ripe and lasting on the palate; ripe fruit flavors with accents of sweet oak in the finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

Main & Geary Petite Sirah 2014

My opinion: It was on sale for $17.95 for 2 bottles (BevMo 5 Cent Sale). I recently discvovered Petite, is the most full-flavored and biggest bodied red wine; it's rich, thick and fruity. Loved it!

Winemaker's notes: 94 PTS PLATINUM - SAN DIEGO WINE COMP (2013 vintage). Consistent year in and year out; mindfully rich and balanced on the palate; full bodied and well structured; plenty of sassy black fruit notes.

I bought it at BevMo!

Cuvaison Chardonnay, California, 2009

My opinion: Today I decided to treat myself and buy a nice bottle of wine over $16. After 15 minutes browsing, I went for Cuvaison Chardonnay ($19.99). I really really disappointed, didn't like it at all.

Winemaker's notes: 90 PTS WILFRED WONG. This wine is all about sleekness; the minerally-scented, nectarine-like '09 Cuvaison Chardonnay shows superb balance and style; crisp and fine in the finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

Wilson Daniels Cabernet 2010

My opinion: It was on sale for $9.99.(Regular Price: $17.99). Cheap wine taste.

Winemaker's notes: The Wilson Daniels Cabernet expresses dark berry aromas with just a bit of sage spice; ripe fruit flavors on the palate with a well balanced finish; perfect to pair with a grilled burger.

I bought it at Ralph's

2005 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Chardonnay

My opinion: I saw it at Ralph's on sale for $11.99 today (Regular Price: $15.99). I liked it: very spicy and dry, a bit tart-edged. I give it four stars!

Winemaker's notes: 90 points from Wine Enthusiast: "What's so nice about this wine is that it has full-throttle Chard personality while keeping everything so balanced that it's also a versatile food wine. You can't say that about a lot of Chardonnays. Mainly it's the acidity, but also the complex, subtle interplay of fruit and oak. A very nice job." (9/1/2007)

I bought it at Ralph's

J. Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $12.99 (Regular Price: $18.99). I used to love this wine 2006. I hate it now 2009. I've never finished that bottle. My Tip: it's better 24 hours later after you open a bottle.

Updates: A few months later I bought J. Lohr Cab again, only it was 2010 this time. Loved it!

Winemaker's notes: A particularly dense vintage, this wine is red-purple in color with a bright hue. Aromas of black currant, plum and black cherry are lifted by a bouquet of vanilla, toasted pastry and spice from a year of barrel aging. The palate is bursting with primary fruit and a broad, rich tannin structure.

I bought it at BevMo!

Paraiso Chardonnay, 2008

My opinion: I bought it for $16.99. - I liked it! 4 stars!

Winemaker's notes: 92 PTS WILFRED WONG. An amazing chard, the feisty '08 Paraiso Chardonnay is at once creamy, full of core fruit flavors and tied together with authentic minerality; long, generous finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

Sebastiani Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $14.99.(Regular Price: $17.99). Loved it - very rich, very fruity, very tasty!

2011

My opinion: I bought 2011 at Ralph's today for $15.99- it was nothing like my favortite 2008.

Winemaker's notes: Our 2008 Sonoma County Cabernet is richer than previous vintages thanks to the warm growing season. Aromas include blackberry, currants, dried herbs, forest floor, vanilla and cocoa. The lower yields and ripeness resulted in a thick palate featuring concentrated black fruits, dry cherries and dusty-like Cabernet flavors. The finish is lush and persistent with enough tannins to support the fruit. This delicious Sonoma County Cabernet can be enjoyed now and will hold nicely for the next few years.

I bought it at BevMo!

Annabella Chardonnay, Napa, 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $9.99 (Regular Price: $14.99). It was great - appely and crisp, just what I like!

Winemaker's notes: Annabella Chardonnay is a full flavored wine with medium body and a rich concentration of fruit. It has overtones of apples and pears with a wonderful nose and mouth feel. A subtle essence of new oak creates a lingering finish. This wine pairs perfectly with grilled salmon, herbed chicken or a mild cheese

I bought it at BevMo!

Main Street Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

My opinion: It was on sale for $8.99.(Regular Price: $14.99). Cheap wine taste. I didn't like it.

Winemaker's notes: 87 PTS WILFRED WONG. Just what one expects in a cab at this price point, the well made '09 Main Street exhibits ripe fruit and sweet wood flavors; more dimensions than others in the marketplace.

I bought it at BevMo!

Laurelwood Chardonnay, Napa, 2009

My opinion: I bought it for $16.99. - It was OK.

Winemaker's notes: 90 PTS WILFRED WONG. A persistent wine, the firm and flavorful '09 Laurelwood Chardonnay delivers plenty of dried peach and apple flavors; sturdy in the aftertaste.

I bought it at Ralph's

14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

My opinion: I bought it for $13.99 (with tax $15.25). I hated it - weak, no body.

Winemaker's notes: 88 PTS WILFRED WONG. A pretty fine effort, the firmly built '10 14 Hands Cabernet shows dried herbs, black earth and star anise on the palate; smooth, yet sturdy tannins in the finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

Robert Hall Sauvignon Blanc (Paso Robles), 2009

My opinion: It was $14.99. - No... didn't like it, 2 stars.

Winemaker's notes: Featuring aromas reminiscent of fresh crisp apple, pineapple, and herbs with hints of toasted almond wrapped around a solid mineral core, the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc is a vivid straw green in color. In the mouth, the wine exhibits bright varietal fruit flavors that echo the aromas. It's refreshingly dry, medium-bodied with a balancing crisp acidity.

bought it at Rite Aid

Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

My opinion: It was on sale for $10.99.(Regular Price: $13.99). It tasted like cheap wine, never finished that bottle.

Winemaker's notes: Inviting aromas of blackberry, black tea and wildflowers begin the nose of this Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is concentrated and structured with sweet, dark berry fruit and elegant, round tannins.

I bought it at BevMo!

JRS Boardroom Selection Chardonnay, 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $14.99 (Regular Price: $24.99). Nothing special.

Winemaker's notes: 90 PTS WILFRED WONG. Deftly made, the slightly creamy '08 JRS Boardroom Selection Chardonnay combines ripe, core fruit flavors with just a hint of sweet oak; smooth finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

Twenty Bench Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $13.77.(Regular Price: $22.99). Black cherry and espresso taste. Nice!

Winemaker's notes: The 2009 Twenty Bench is medium-bodied with considerable finesse, length, ripeness, and structure. It displays wonderful aromas of vanilla, licorice, black cherry and espresso followed by elegant flavors of raspberry, black currants, blueberries and toasty oak. Ripe, round and luscious, it is ideal for drinking during its first 5-7 years of life.

I bought it at Trader Joe's

Stonehedge Reserve Chardonnay , 2009

My opinion: Bought it for $9.99. It gave me a horrible headache next morning.

Winemaker's notes: I cannot find any information about this wine.

I bought it at BevMo!

Stonegate Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

My opinion: It was on sale for $9.99.(Regular Price: $16.99). I didn't like it so much. Three stars.

Winemaker's notes: A wonderful Cabernet that exhibits ripe plum and black currant aromas echoed by rich flavors on the palate that linger all through the finish; a well balanced wine expressing true Cabernet character.

I bought it at Ralph's

Santa Barbara Chardonnay 2008

My opinion: I noticed this wine some time ago at Ralph's (because the lure of Santa Barbara roped me in) but never had a chance to buy it due to a price of $16.99. I didn't feel that special vibe to go and get it. I looked at it but always passed it. Today it was on sale for $12.99 so I bought it. As it happens my instincts were correct. I am SO disappointed - bad, bad, bad, isn't worth even $12.99. Tastes like a low-bred, metallic cheap wine. I will never buy it again.

Winemaker's notes: Offers up fresh citrus and lemon zest aromas, followed by a polished mouthful of stone fruit and lively acidity. A nicely balanced and refreshing style. Ideal for poultry, seafood, or simply enjoying al fresco.

bought it at Rite Aid

Kendall-Jackson Summation Red Blend 2010

My opinion: It was on sale for $11.99.(Regular Price: $19.99). Fruity and rich, liked it!

Winemaker's notes: This beautifully layered wine is rich, complex and offers a sumptuous texture. It displays alluring fragrances and flavors of raspberry jam, dark chocolate, black cherry and pomegranate. Smooth tannins envelope the mouth and linger beyond each sip. Blend: 43% Zinfandel, 24% Syrah, 21% Merlot, 5% Grenache, 4% Petite Sirah, and 3% other varietals

I bought it at BevMo!

Lake Sonoma Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $9.99 (Regular Price: $16.99). It was OK

I bought it at BevMo!

Cartlidge & Browne Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

My opinion: I bought it for $11.99. I loved it a lot! One of the best cabs I've ever tried, for the price like that.

Winemaker's notes: A rich ruby/garnet in color, the wine's aromas combine ripe, juicy fruit notes of cassis and blueberry with classic mocha, sweet tobacco, and cedar spice. Particularly impressive in its lush, dense mouth feel, it offers full-throttle, jammy black fruit brought into focus by a dollop of spicy, smoky oak. The wine can be enjoyed with virtually any grilled or roasted meat, but pairs especially well with fine cuts of beef or loin lamb chops. It is also delicious with feathered game, or with hearty poultry dishes such as coq au vin.

I bought it at Ralph's

Wente Morning Fog Chardonnay, 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $10.99 (Regular Price: $12.99). What a nice surprise! I loved it. Five stars!

Winemaker's notes: Enjoy aromas and flavors of green apple and tropical fruits, balanced by subtle oak, cinnamon and vanilla from barrel aging. With a mouth-filling body and balanced acidity, this wine delivers a medium-long, refreshing finish.

Fermentation: 50% of this wine was barrel fermented in French, American and Eastern European oak, while the balance was fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the natural fruit flavors inherent in our Livermore Valley Chardonnay.

I bought it at Trader Joe's

Trader Joe's Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon. "Two Buck Chuck".

My opinion: It is watery. It's not wine, just alcoholic flavored grape juice.

Winemaker's notes: Charles Shaw is a brand of "extreme value", bargain-priced wine. Largely made from California grapes, in the style of Beaujolais nouveau. These wines were introduced exclusively at Trader Joe's grocery stores in California at a price of $1.99 per bottle, earning the wines the nickname Two Buck Chuck. Prices in states other than California have been increased to as high as $3.79 per bottle. As of January 16, 2013, a bottle of Charles Shaw retails for $2.49 in parts of California.

I bought it at BevMo!

Fog Head Chardonnay, 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $12.99 (Regular Price: $15.99). It was a little bit too "fruity" for my taste.

Winemaker's notes: This Chardonnay has rich aromas of apples and pears making it a perfect compliment to food with its bold fruit flavors and undertones of minerals and oak on the palate.

I bought it at Ralph's

Pennywise Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

My opinion: It was on sale for $9.49 (Regular Price: $13.99). I hated it. It is a weak red with no texture, no body.

Winemaker's notes: Pennywise California Cabernet Dark garnet color exuding aromas of dried sage, sandalwood, fire roasted Ortega chiles, and blackberry cobbler. These flavors are classic Cabernet Sauvignon with dark currant, blackberry, fresh cranberry, and espresso bean. The finish shows more dried dark fruit with sage, clove, cedar, white pepper, and dried cherry studded in dark chocolate bark.

I bought it at Ralph's

Chateau St Jean Sonoma Chardonnay, 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $10.99 (Regular Price: $15.99). I liked it.

Winemaker's notes: This classic Sonoma County Chardonnay displays bright aromas of lemon cream, mango and notes of toasted hazelnut. This wine has a subtle elegance with a lingering finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

Greg Norman Cabernet North Coast 2011

My opinion: It was on sale for $13.99. I didn't like it!

Winemaker's notes: Deep red color with aromas of ripe blackberry, dark cherry compote and mocha notes with hints of roasted coffee; a robust palate with flavors of black currant and lush, ripe plum; silky mouthfeel.

I bought it at Ralph's

Joel Gott Monterey Chardonnay 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $10.99 (Regular Price: $15.99). Typical "stainless steel" - I will never buy it again.

Winemaker's notes: Our Monterey Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel, keeping the wine clean and crisp, just like our favorite Chablis. The cool, breezy weather of Monterey Bay allows for a longer period of maturation which allows the grapes more time to develop classic varietal characteristics. The climate produces a Chardonnay with aromas of orange blossom, green apple, and citrus and with a bright acid structure. The vineyards of Monterey consistently provide ideal fruit and exemplify our winemaking goal: a natural balance between sugar and acidity. Because of the low yields from this vintage, the fruit had intensified aromas and flavors, creating a more full-bodied, weighty wine.

I bought it at Ralph's

Diseno Malbec Mendoza 2011, Argentina

My opinion: It was on sale for $8.99 (Regular Price: $10.99). Bad!

Winemaker's notes: Delivers ripe mountain fruit, subtle tannins, and complex Malbec character. Deep purple in color with a crimson luster, the bouquet of violets and cherry blossom unfolds to a hint of tobacco. Explosive flavors of earthy blueberry and rich chocolate are robust with well-balanced acidity.Malbec has thrived in Argentina since the 1800s when cuttings were transplanted from their original home in France. Now considered among the world's most distinguished red wines, Malbec flourishes in Mendoza. Two of Argentina's most highly respected vignerons supply Diseno Malbec from old growth vineyards in Mendoza. Vines grow in fertile soil, rich with old mineral deposits, irrigated by heavy winter snow melt from the Andes glaciers. Both families hold great respect for tradition in their pursuit of quality.

I bought it at Ralph's

Sterling Sauvignon Blanc Napa County, 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $11.99 (Regular Price: $15.99). I liked it - well, you never can go wrong with Sterling.

Winemaker's notes: Sterling Sauvignon Blanc Napa County 2008 - Flashy and refreshing, our 2008 Sauvignon Blanc entices with grapefruit, citrus and pineapple aromas. The zesty flavors are filled with ruby grapefruit, passion fruit and melon, with a lemon-pear finish. Hints of lemon verbena-the signature of Sauvignon Blanc add a fresh floral-herbal scent to the melange of fruit flavors. Crisp and beautifully balanced, our Sauvignon Blanc makes a perfect aperitif or a delicious complement to fresh salads, especially with warmed goat cheese, Dungeness crab and sauteed sole with lemon caper sauce.

My opinion: It was on sale for $12.99.(Regular Price: $17.99). Fruity and spicy- loved it very much! It was even better on the second day. I keep buying this wine over and over again. Excellent value.

Winemaker's notes: The 2010 Joel Gott 815 Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of plum, raspberry and cherry cola with hints of anise, cocoa, leather and dried herbs. Bright acidity on the front of the palate leads to a complex mid-palate and soft tannins on the finish.

I bought it at Trader Joe's

Husch Chardonnay Mendocino, 2009

My opinion: Bought it for $9.99. Clean and crisp! Loved it!

Winemaker's notes: 87 points Wine Enthusiast: A good Chardonnay, rich and creamy in pineapple, lime, Asian pear, vanilla and new oak flavors. It's balanced with crisp acidity.

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Kendall Jackson "Vintner's Reserve" California Chardonnay, 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $12.99 (Regular Price: $16.99). It was too strong for my taste.

Winemaker's notes: The rewards of patience are remarkable. For three decades, my family has nurtured coveted vineyards along California's cool coast. Our Jackson Estates Grown 100% Chardonnay is bursting with tropical flavors such as pineapple, mango and papaya along with citrus notes that explode in your mouth. Crisp, green apple flavors and a smooth, creamy texture add even more depth. To balance this intensity, we age the wine in small oak barrels. I'm very proud of this wine, I hope you enjoy it. - Founder, Jess S. Jackson.

I bought it in Malibu, wine testing

SeaGlass Sauvignon Blanc, CA, 2010

My opinion: I went to the Cornell Winery/ wine testing in Malibu and felt in love with this wine. I bought it for $15. Five star!

Update: My wine friend Dane really disliked this Sauvignon... Hmmm... Why?

Winemaker's notes: Our Sauvignon Blanc vineyard is nestled in Santa Barbara's rolling hills. The cool ocean air and abundant fog of Santa Barbara County allow Sauvignon Blanc grapes to ripen slowly and evenly while developing complex tropical flavors and crisp acidity.

Reductive style winemaking keeps the fresh, fruitforward flavors of the grape intact during the winemaking process by keeping the juice void of oxygen exposure. 100% non-malolactic fermentation maintains the wine's delicate varietal flavors and crisp acidity. SeaGlass Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in stainless steel tanks at cold temperatures to retain the grape's natural tropical flavors. The wine is bottled early and sealed with a Stelcap closure to preserve the wine's freshness.

Ancient Peaks Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
2007

My opinion: It was $14.99. This wine has everything I love about Cabernet!

Winemaker's notes: Made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon (92%) with small amounts of Zin, Petit Verdot and Malbec aged for 19 months in French and American oak barrels, the wine has a full, alluring nose of plums, black cherries, vanilla and smoke. Rich and jammy on the palate, the flavors tend toward kirsch and cassis accented by licorice and mint. The tannins are ripe and firm and there's good acidity too - moreso than in some of the wines from the warmer reaches of Paso to the north. plenty of flavor interest; long finish.

Santa Barbara Chardonnay 2009

My opinion: I saw it at Ralph's on sale for $11.99 (Regular Price: $14.99). it was OK.

Many months later I bought this wine again, and I loved it!

Winemaker's notes: Winemaker Bruce McGuire was able to travel throughout western Santa Barbara County choosing several vineyards (including Scheid Vineyard up in Monterey County) for this multi-vineyard blend.

These vineyards meet Bruce's standards for viticultural practices and growing conditions suitable to make this full-bodied yet eminently approachable Chardonnay. All the grapes for this wine were pressed as whole clusters and 55% of the wine fermented in stainless steel without undergoing malolactic frementation.

My opinion: It was on sale for $14.99 (Regular Price: $18.99). Always enjoy this red wine!

Updates: One year later I had 2010 and I didn't like it at all!

Winemaker's notes: Our prize offering, the ultra premium Claret, sports a label that honors the first Cabernet blended in a Bordeaux style by Gustave Niebaum in 1910. Claret is a term originally coined by the British to describe Cabernet-based wines. This Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec blend is alluring and sophisticated; it is memorably lush with a tapestry of smooth tannins and succulent flavors of wild berries, plum and anise.

88 PTS WILFRED WONG.

Wente Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

My opinion: It was at Ralph's on sale for $12.99 (Regular Price: $16.99). Hate this cheap wine, can not drink it!

Winemaker's notes: In the 19th century, California wine pioneer Charles Wetmore imported Cabernet Sauvignon cuttings from Bordeaux to plant in his Livermore Valley vineyards. The descendants of these vines were selected by University of California at Davis to become a part of their Foundation nursery and are known as clones 7 and 8.Β  Today, the Wente family farms approximately 400 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards using these two clones with appropriately selected root stocks. With their undulating terrain, meandering Arroyos, well-drained rocky soils, and unique mesoclimates, the Southern Hills vineyards are located in the most desirable settings with exposures ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon of distinct character, depth and intensity.

I bought it at Trader Joe's

Markham Chardonnay Estate Grown Napa Valley 2009

My opinion: I love this wine! It's so rare to hit a jackpot with wine under $16! Five stars! I paid $13.99 at the Trader Joe's, but it tastes like a much more expensive wine - at a shockingly good price.

Winemaker's notes: Markham Chardonnay Estate Grown Napa Valley 2009 - Toasted hazelnut and almond marry with peach, apple & pineapple. Vanilla and honey envelop the senses. Ripe red apple and fresh cream give rich texture. Generous finish, lingering long after with toasted nut and nectar.

I bought it at Ralph's

Dynamite Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007

My opinion: It was at Ralph's on sale for $11.99 (Regular Price: $15.99). Everything is there I love: blackberry, currant, plum, dark chocolate...

.

Winemaker's notes: Dynamite Cabernet Sauvignon remains true to the style of previous vintages, even as the vineyard sources have narrowed to the new Red Hills AVA within the North Coast appellation. The wine is round and full-flavored, immensely fruit-driven and true to the varietal. Delicious when young, it has the potential for greater complexity with bottle aging. This wine is made almost exclusively from mountain-grown fruit with smaller clusters and berries, and as such, is very concentrated and intense. Lush aromas of dark fruit such as blackberry, currant and plum are complemented by notes of dark chocolate and espresso. The full palate shows sweet fine-grained tannins from the mountain vineyards.

Main & Geary Chardonnay, 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $11.99 (Regular Price: $14.99). As much I loved their Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 - as much I hated this horrible Chardonnay. I cannot believe it had 92 PTS WILFRED WONG- just another confirmation those ratings mean nothing to me.

Winemaker's notes: 92 PTS WILFRED WONG. Scintillating and fine, the mineral-scented, tart peach-like '09 Main & Geary Chardonnay penetrates the palate with crisp acidity and bright fruit.

I bought it at BevMo!

Main & Geary Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

My opinion: I saw it on Valentine's Day "on sale" for $12.99 (Regular Price: $19.99). It looked like a great deal so, being in a romantic mood, I bought it. I loved this wine! Medium-bodied, with low acidity, medium sweet tannins, generous oak and black fruit flavors. It's still on sale, I think I will go and get it: I am ready for red wine tonight.

Winemaker's notes: 92 PTS WILFRED WONG. You can pour this cab for anytime, the deliciously, devilish '07 Main & Geary Cabernet is absolutely enticing; from start to finish; great with a rib-eye of beef.

I bought it at Trader Joe's

Starmont Chardonnay Napa Valley 2008

My opinion: Damn it! I decided to treat myself today and bought Starmont at the Trader Joe's for $14.99. I wish I knew it was stainless steel fermented wine because I wouldn't buy it. Nothing special, it tests cheap - I can have a 6 dollars bottle with the similar taste... So disappointed! I gave it two stars - at least I didn't throw it away - hated it but still drank it.

Winemaker's notes: Aromas of Graventstein Apple, Bosc Pear, mandarin orange, peach, and apple tart with roasted hazelnut, vanilla bean and spice (nutmeg and clove). The wine has a soft entry leading to a round fleshy mid-palate and is filled with layers of fruit and spice. Toasty notes are accentuated on the long finish.

50% stainless steel fermented; 50% barrel fermented

I bought it at Ralph's

Eos Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008, Paso Robles

My opinion: I saw it at Ralph's on sale for $9.99 (Regular Price: $12.99). Tasted like a cheap wine. I never finished that bottle.

Winemaker's notes: Cellarmaster Gary Cargill celebrated his 20th year with Eos winery in 2008, leading the cellar crew, and developing a generation of skilled young winemakers in the process. For the past several years, the White Cabernet has been his own personal winemaking project, developing a cult following among our wine club members and tasting room guests. The 2008 is another great example of the noble Cabernet Sauvignon produced in an aromatic and fruit-filled semi-sweet style. A testament to the passion Gary has for making winemaking fun for everyone. Open a bottle open with your own crew!

I bought it at Ralph's

Byron Chardonnay, 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $15.49 (Regular Price: $16.99). I really really hated it - tastes like a metallic cheap wine.

Winemaker's notes: The 2009 vintage was relatively dry, warm and trouble free giving us a wine that is pure, balanced and generous. The nose is packed with stone fruit, fig, honey, spice and red apples. The palate is both crisp and concentrated with a mineral finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

I bought it at BevMo!

Bonterra Chardonnay 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $12.99 (Regular Price: $16.99). Love it! Very summery!

Winemaker's notes: For our chardonnay, we have adopted a style that deliberately uses a combination of oak and stainless steel to emphasize the crisp freshness of our organic fruit. Our organic fruit from Mendocino others the characteristic flavors of green and baked apples, pears, and citrus to our chardonnay. We ferment 70% of the juice in a combination of French and American oak, which is allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation to create a rich creamy wine with just a touch of new oak spice. The remaining 30% is fermented in stainless steel to preserve the crisp fresh fruit flavors. We age most of the wine using previously-used or neutral oak in order for these fresh fruit characteristics to shine through. New oak was used for just 16% of the wine to give this chardonnay a nice vanilla note. An initial impression of rich, buttery cream turns to aromas of honey and toasted almonds, quickly followed by pineapple, lemon and crème brûlée. This wine has a refreshing, bright, clean minerality with a vibrant tartness and lemon zest that is distinctly Bonterra Chardonnay.

Wedding in Pacific Palisades

Muirwood Chardonnay, Arroyo Seco, 2008 or 2009

My opinion: I tried my first bottle of Muirwoods Chardonnay this week on my friends wedding, and it's gone straight to my A list. Full bodied, rich, smooth, complex. Comparable to far more expensive wines.

Winemaker's notes: A full-bodied Chardonnay with a generous helping of Golden Delicious apple and buttered pear flavors. Savory and delicious on its own; an apple-stuffed pork loin would be an ideal food pairing.

I bought it at Ralph's

MacMurray Ranch Chardonnay 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $14.99 (Regular Price: $20). A good freshness, medium-bodied, fruit-driven style. A great wine for summer.

Winemaker's notes: Our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay has a rich, full mouthfeel enveloped in sweet, delicate aromatics of ripe melon and passion fruit. A subtle oak influence gives the wine flavors of toasted caramel and vanilla. This Chardonnay is well-balanced with a full, creamy finish.

Gloria Ferrer Carneros Chardonnay 2007

My opinion: It was on sale for $10.04 (Regular Price: $14.99). it was the worst wine I ever tried - a strong bad fruity taste. Never finished that bottle.

Winemaker's notes: Enticing aromas of ripe Gravenstein apple, Asian pear, hazelnut and hints of oak spice abound in the nose of this Chardonnay. On the palate, the wine is round and viscous yet refreshing with rich, tangy lemon and butterscotch flavors mingling with a touch of cloves throughout the lasting finish.

Project Paso Chardonnay 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $11.99 (Regular Price: $13.99). i didn't like it, but it was OK on the second day.

Winemaker's notes: This Chardonnay shows its Paso roots from the get-go. Aromas of green apple, blanched almonds, and vanilla and oak nuance fill the glass. Light, crisp flavors of apricot and Meyer lemon come from the cold marine air that flows into Paso Robles through the Templeton Gap, while sur lie aging adds extra body and rustic richness. Aged for a balanced 8 months on half French and half American oak, our 2009 Chardonnay has subtle notes of vanilla woven into background flavors from the dusty Paso terroir. This wine finishes with a snap of zesty acidity and the soft, lingering flavor of apricot skin.

Cresta Blanca Chardonnay 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $9.99 (Regular Price: $14.99). It was OK, will never buy it again.

Winemaker's notes: Winary- Named for a white limestone cliff that dominates the Livermore Valley landscape, the winery was thriving prior to Prohibition, at which time it had to be shut down. Wetmore died before Prohibition's repeal, but it was re-opened by his brother Clarence. It was sold in 1941 to Schenley Distillers, who closed the business in 1965. The name was then sold to the Guild Wine Company in 1965. The land remained fallow until it was purchased by the Wente family in 1981, and revitalized as the "Sparkling Cellars."

The winery is registered as California Historical Landmark #586

MacRostie Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2009

My opinion: I bought it at BevMo!, I didn't like it.

Mount Eden Edna Valley Chardonnay, Wolff Vineyardy 2010

My opinion: It was on sale (Regular Price around $19.99) OMG, it was bad! I couldn't drink it -such a horrible strong taste. It also had a rich, yellow- dark color - that color does not look pretty in a wine glass.

Winemaker's notes: If you like profoundly flavored Chardonnay that is not overripe or over oaked, this is your style. Subtle aromas of lanolin, mint and lavender give way to apple and citrus notes on the palate with hints of fennel and dried fruits. High-toned acidity provides freshness in the aftertaste.

I bought it at BevMo!

Domaine Chandon Carneros Chardonnay 2009

My opinion: It was on sale for $16 something cents (Regular Price: over $25). Loved it! Mineral and apple-y taste!

Winemaker's notes: While Domaine Chandon is best known as one of America's top sparkling wine houses, we also produce limited quantities of still wines from our estate grown vineyards. We craft these wines by drawing on our experience with the traditional champagne varieties and by showcasing select parcels from our Carneros ranch, where we were pioneering growers and vintners of the region.

The wine's aroma is fresh and structured with floral notes highlighted by elderflower. As a signature of its Carneros appellation, the wine's mineral aromas remain lifted by balanced acidity. When harvesting at optimal ripeness, characters of white Burgundy are revealed in the wine as subtle, yet present, with the oak being perfectly integrated. Fuji apple, lemon and other citrus flavors create a satisfying, seamless palate that finishes with notes of white peach and apricot.

La Merika Chardonnay, California 2011

My opinion: It was on sale for $12.99 (Regular Price: $14.99). I bought it because of 91 PTS. And of course I was disappointed, as usual.

Winemaker's notes: 91 PTS WILFRED WONG. A treat for the palate, the inviting '11 La Merika Chardonnay serves up ripe apple aromas; medium bodied and well defined on the palate; fine acidity and crispness in the finish.

I bought it at BevMo!

Lincourt Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2008

My opinion: It was on sale for $11.17 (Regular Price: $15.99). It was risky to buy 2008 vintage. This wine past its prime.

Winemaker's notes: This classic Santa Barbara Chardonnay shows distinct tropical fruit and citrus aromas enhanced by vanilla, butterscotch and toasty oak notes. The flavors are well structured with citrus and buttery tones balanced by a firm acidity.

I bought it at Ralph's

Bridlewood Monterey Chardonnay 2012

My opinion: It was on sale for $11.99 (Regular Price: around $15.99). Liked it.

Winemaker's notes: Our Monterey County Chardonnay displays juicy tropical and floral notes mixed with hints of vanilla and spice. Flavors of mandarin orange, lime and pippin apple give way to clover honey and toasted sugar notes. With age, tropical caramel aromas will develop beautifully in this wine.

bought it at Rite Aid

Robert Mondavi Private Selection Chardonnay 2012

My opinion: It was on sale for $7.99.(Regular Price: $11.99). it was pretty good. I love the price also.

Winemaker's notes: California- The nose reveals ripe apple, melon, citrus and tropical fruit aromas enriched by creamy malolactic tones, spicy French oak nuances and enticing baked bread scents.
